Tour in Mountainous Georgia - 9 Days

In a 9-day journey you will visit most of the famous mountainous settlements in Georgia, with their unique nature, centuries old villages and architecture, regionally distinguished cuisine and astonishing scenarios.

At first, you will visit the capital of Georgia – Tbilisi famous for its multi-ethnical and multi-religious culture. The next day you will start your unforgettable journey to Shatili, Khevsureti. After visiting some 60 towers which together create a single chain of fortifications, you will be transported to another famous mountainous region of Georgia – Svaneti, where you will visit Mestia and Ushguli (one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe) and Hatsvali ski resort (with the view of the highest point in Georgia – Shkhara).

Day 1
Arrival at the airport

Arrival at the Tbilisi International Airport, transfer to the hotel located in Old Tbilisi.

Day 2
Tbilisi City Tour

Visit Trinity Church – the largest Georgian Orthodox Church

Walk on Metekhi bridge to Shardeni Street – a street with cozy cafes, bars and galleries

Take a walk around the ancient Abanotubani District – according to the legend, it was the sulphur springs that inspired King Vakhtang Georgasali to establish the new capital city in the 5th century

Go up to the Narikala Fortress using cable car with the spectacular view of Old Tbilisi

Visit Tbilisi Botanical Garden and an amazing waterfall near the entrance

Walk through the Bridge of Peace – very famous bridge designed by an Italian architect

End the trip at Mtatsminda Mount reaching it by the funicular railway

Day 3
Trip to Shatili, Khevsureti

Morning ride to Shatili, Khevsureti

It is approximately 6-hour-ride through the Datvijvari Pass at the altitude of 2,689 m and road gets rocky and bumpy at times but it is worth taking.

There are many excellent photo opportunities on your way to Shatili to capture the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range and unspoiled nature

Arriving in Shatili – the village is a unique complex of fortresses and fortified dwellings which functioned both as a residential area and a fortress guarding the northeastern outskirts of the country. The fortress consists of the terraced structures dominated by flat-roofed dwellings and some 60 towers which cluster together to create a single chain of fortifications.

Shatili and Mutso Trip

Visit Mutso – the abandoned village is a home of approximately 30 medieval fortified dwelling units arranged on vertical terraces above the Mutso-Ardoti gorge

Return back to Shatili

Taste local Khevsurian cuisine

Stay at a cozy guesthouse in Shatili

Day 5
Back to Tbilisi

Drive back to Tbilisi

Free time in the city until evening

Visit a traditional Georgian restaurant in Old Tbilisi – taste some great food and wine

Day 6
Trip To Svaneti

Morning ride to Svaneti

On your road to Mestia you will stop at Enguri Dam, which is the second highest concrete arch dam in the world

Arrival in Mestia and a tour around the town until the evening

Stay at a clean and comfortable guesthouse in Mestia

Day 7
Trip to Ushguli

Drive to Ushguli – one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe

There you get to know with the centuries old Svanetian towers – UNESCO World Heritage Site

Return back to Mestia and have traditional Svanetian dinner

Stay at a clean and comfortable guesthouse in Mestia

Day 8
Trip to Hatsvali

Morning cable car ride to Hatsvali ski resort – a unique place with fascinating

There you can enjoy the magesty of Mount Shkhara – the highest point in the nation of Georgia

Go back to Mestia and start the journey back to Tbilisi

You will arrive in Tbilisi in the evening
